Dal and Green Veggies Chops-Tasty Healthy Recipes to Enjoy for the New Year 2019


Are you tired of having pulses/legumes and common veggies in your lunch and dinner? Alternatively, are you a parent and often facing difficulty to make your child eat legumes, pulses and nutritious green veggies?

If yes, you will have good news now. This New Year, we have come up with one of the tasty healthy recipes for individuals belonging to every age group with Dal and Green Veggies Chop. Moreover, as our dal-based recipe contains 0% Maida and we have soaked the oil post frying, you may enjoy our chops even when you are on a diet plan.



Ingredients Required-

·         1cup of Mug Dal (you may choose combination of dals or any other dal)
·         Carrots
·         Cabbage
·         Capsicum
·         Green peas
·         Green chilies
·         Tomato
·         Ginger garlic paste
·         Cumin seeds
·         Turmeric powder
·         Chili powder
·         Coriander powder
·         Cumin powder
·         Garam masala
·         Tomato sauce
·         Chili sauce
·         Salt to taste
·         Peanuts and
·         Besan and/or Jowar as optional ingredients

Preliminary Steps

·         Soak the dal for 15minutes and drain out the water
·         Put the soak dal in the mixer and grind it (avoid grinding it finely)

Preparation of the Stuffing

Chop each of the veggies, including tomatoes and green chilies so that you may easily mix and grind them in a mixer grinder.
·         Heat 1tablespoon of oil in a pan and add cumin seeds
·         Add peanuts and fry it for a while
·         Add the grinded veggie mixer
·         Add ginger garlic paste (skip this if you already added ginger garlic paste or in clove form at the time of grinding veggies)
·         Add common salt and other aforementioned spices, while stir for a while
·         Add chili sauce and tomato sauce and stir for some time further
·         Remove the stuffing from the pan and leave it to cool.

Preparation of the Dough and Balls

·         Mix the grinded dal and the prepared stuffing properly
·         Add besan and/or jowar to make the dough strong
·         Add salt and red chili powder to enhance the taste
·         Once you prepare the dough, start taking out small lemon size balls.

Preparation of Chops

·         Heat the oil (mustard oil is preferable) in a pan
·         Fry each of the balls until they turn golden brown in color

Cabbage Kathi Rolls and Cutlets-Best Winter Time Tasty and Healthy Snack to Enjoy

Whenever we talk about green veggies, one of the popular names that strike in our mind is cabbage. Strong reason for this is that as a fresh and a green leafy vegetable, it gives tons of nutritional benefits with low amount of calories and fat. However, as the nature of a human being, he or she gives priority to taste rather than overall health while choosing any food item, including the mentioned green veggie i.e. cabbage. 




Thus, in order to give a perfect blend between excellent taste and good health, we have introduced a few tasty and healthy recipes prepared with cabbage in combination with some other veggies in small amounts. In addition, to meet the objective of diet-friendly recipe or gluten-free recipe, we have used sorghum i.e. jowar flour and gram flour i.e. besan instead of Maida. These include the following-

·         Cabbage Kathi Rolls and
·         Cabbage Cutlets

Note-Initial preparation and stuffing for both of these recipes are similar, but the difference lies in the shape and extent of frying cutlets and rolls in a pan.



Ingredients Required

·         1 small size or half big size of cabbage
·         Handful of green peas
·         1 small size carrot
·         1 tomato
·         2 to 3 green chilies
·         Ginger garlic in clove forms or as paste
·         Cumin seeds
·         Oil (mustard oil is preferable)
·         Turmeric powder
·         Chili powder
·         Chili sauce
·         Tomato sauce
·         Schezwan chutney
·         Coriander powder
·         Cumin powder
·         Garam masala
·         Salt to taste
·         Jowar/sorghum 1 cup
·         Besan/gram flour of half cup

Preparation of the Stuffing

To start the preparation, you have to chop each of the veggies finely and place into a mixer grinder to make a semi-solid type of paste.
·         Heat one or two tablespoon of oil in a pan and add cumin seeds
·         Add the semi-solid mixture in the pan
·         Add each of the aforementioned spices and sauces one by one.
·         Add salt to taste
·         If required add only a few amount of water to avoid sticking of the paste
·         Stir occasionally for a while
·         Your stuffing becomes ready and keep it for some time to cool



Preparation of Dough

To prepare the dough, you have to mix the stuffing with sorghum and gram flours with a pinch of salt and 1tablespoon of oil.
Here, you have to prepare a bit hard dough, so that you may easily prepare cutlet or roll in the later steps.

Preparation of Rolls or Cutlets



For Kathi Rolls

·        Take a small size of the dough and make it just like a shape of a thin roll i.e. or stick (a kathi in Hindi)
·         Repeat the procedure for each of the dough’s pieces.
·         Heat the oil in a pan and fry it.
·         In case of rolls, you have to opt for deep fry.
·         Finally, you should serve the rolls hot with pickle, curd, chutney or sauce.

For Cutlets

·         In case of cutlets, you have to make flat shapes before fry them in a pan.
·         Here, you may go with either shallow fry or deep fry depending on your taste buds and other health requirements.
Once you complete the process, serve the cutlets hot with any type of sauce or chutney of your own choice.
